A few years ago, I put together a list of all of the local farmer markets for my business website. Each spring, I update the list to include the dates the markets open & close and add new markets to the list.
When I started the list, I had no idea there were so many options for shopping at outdoor farmers markets in St. Louis.
Everyone in town has heard about the Soulard Farmer Market, but there are also markets that are much closer to home for those of us who don’t live near the Mississippi.
Ever since I’ve started the list, I’ve vowed to hit all of the markets in St. Louis city & county at least once. Every summer I fail. So far I’ve made it to:
- Soulard
- North City (across the street from Crown Candy)
- Kirkwood
- Maplewood (this year renamed Schlafly Farmer’s Market)
That means I’ve got 9 more to try to hit my goal. Not sure I’ll make it this year since I usually go about once a month. Living alone and eating out a lot, I just don’t need new produce every week.
Schlafly Farmer’s Market:
I had good intentions this summer, and headed to Schlafly Farmer’s Market on opening day with my friend Janice.
Schlafly sets up the market in their parking lot
Fresh sage and thyme bundles
Fresh herbs for the garden
More herb varieties
Black Bear Bakery had one of the busier tents
Schlafly’s bar
After some serious shopping at the market, we headed inside for dinner and a beer. This time I ordered the ravioli. Not the favorite thing I’ve ever had a Schlafly, but the cold beer made up for it.
Yes, I now. It’s an odd picture. I was trying to be creative but it didn’t work out so well this time.
