This weekend you have the chance to try out burgers from 6 of the areas best chefs and vote for the winner.
Purchase Tickets (event details below)
Last year, I attended this ALIVE Top Chef Ultimate Burger Challenge and it was a lot of fun.
My office, Circa Properties, was one of the event sponsors and it was located just outside our main office. I tried all of the burgers and enjoyed a couple of complimentary drinks. Everyone I spoke with had a different opinion on which burger was their favorite and it was just a fun way to spend an afternoon.
The way this event works is that when you arrive, you receive tickets so you can try each of the burgers. The tickets weren’t marked for specific vendors, so if you don’t like the ingredients on one of the burgers, you can get a second one of your favorite burger.
If you can actually eat 6 burgers. I was too stuffed to try them all.
You also get complimentary drink sampling (or 2 free drinks with the VIP ticket) plus drinks are available for purchase.
Last Year’s Burgers:
Blueberry Hill – Chef Bob Waters:
The Dam – Chef Matt Galati:
Sub Zero – Chef Ian Craig:
Alumni St. Louis – Chef Eric Brenner:
I never managed to get a picture of this finished burger…but it was sure good!
Three Monkeys – Chef Zach Rice:
Sugarfire Smokehouse – Chef Mike Johnson:
And the Winner is…
Last year’s Top Chef winner, as awarded by a panel of judges, was Mike Johnson with Sugarfire Grill. He has been invited back to participate again this year.
The crowd gets to vote on their favorite burger, and the popular vote winner was Matt Galati with The Dam.
Event Details – Top Chef Ultimate Burger Challenge 2014:
If you are looking for something to do tomorrow afternoon, I’m sure that this year will be another fun day of good food.
Date: Sunday August 17, 2014
Time: 12 PM – 4 PM
Location: Soldier’s Memorial (13th & Pine, St. Louis, MO 63103)
Cost: $25 for regular ticket (6 mini-burgers & complimentary drink samples) or $40 VIP ticket (6 mini-burgers, 2 drink tickets, express line for burgers, VIP tent with bathrooms)
This year the competing chefs are:
- Bob Brazell, Athlete Eats
- Carl Hazel, Scottish Arms
- Laura Borghardt, Stacked
- Rachel Obermeyer, Prime 1000
- Anthony Ellerson, The Kitchen Sink
- Mike Johnson, Sugarfire Smokehouse (last year’s Top Chef winner)
I can attest that Scottish Arms and The Kitchen Sink know make great burgers. Scottish Arms is just 2 blocks from my townhouse (which is up for sale!) and The Kitchen Sink is a few blocks from my office. I love Sugarfire Smokehouse and agree with the judges that they made an amazing burger for the event. I haven’t eaten at the other locations, and I wish I could attend tomorrow to give them a try.
Unfortunately, I have an open house scheduled for my condo for sale, so I’ll have to miss out this year.
Disclosure: ALIVE Magazine reached out to me and offered me the chance to sign up as an affiliate for ticket sales. If you purchase a ticket using the links provided on this page, I will receive a small amount of compensation from ALIVE. I’ve been planning on posting these pictures before the event anyway, so the affiliate offer was gravy.
